Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation
Together with stakeholders from public administrations, business and civil society at national, as well as sub-national and local levels, we work on programs and projects aiming at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and the successful adaptation to climate change. This includes training and qualification of relevant actors as well as support in the process of implementation.
We analyse data to inform and adapt projects, programmes and service providers to climate change. We provide advice and services to integrate climate change mitigation and adaptation measures into project and programme design by considering the Climate-Water-Energy-Health-Nexus. We develop options for a better management of natural resources reducing climate risks and strengthening the climate resilience of people, communities and organisations.
A few projects we have successfully supported:
- We have helped Bread for the World (BfdW), Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe, and their relevant partner organisations in evaluating their joint process of developing and implementing the ‘Climate Lighthouse Project’. This involved learning workshops in Bangladesh and Indonesia, and follow-up advisory on a climate policy of BfdW.
- We carried out two consecutive analyses of BMZ’s bilateral portfolio in the field of climate change adaptation and mitigation, with focus on rural development and agriculture. To identify funding trends and changes in program types and areas over the years 2014-2022, we systematically reviewed more than 700 program proposals and designed a comprehensive database.
- On behalf of the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMUB) we reviewed climate change related project outlines for the selection of projects eligible for funding under the International Climate Initiative (IKI), using a standardised quality assessment grid.
